Today's walk report: 031414

The past 4 days...

My companion, Docken and I have walked everyday since the last walk report on 031014 but events surrounding the walks and adapting evenings to daylight savings time have put a damper on posting in my typical daily fashion. Quite honestly, evenings with my girl are precious, each and every moment is a treasure. So, quickly here's some stuff from 031114 until today.

Monday's Tarzana Nursery visit reported here led to a trip to Sperling Nursery in Calabasas on Tuesday mostly as a something to do but we had also decided to look for a Tree Mallow (Lavatera maritima) after seeing a few in Tarzana which had overgrown their 5 gallon pots. They didn't have any so I took a lot of pictures instead.

Mostly orchids and their symbolically male counterpart, Anthuriums. All photos were shot with a Canon 60 mm Macro lens.

After the visit to Sperling we returned to Tarzana Nursery and picked up one of the Tree Mallows we saw earlier. It had roots running out of its pot and into the ground. The curator at the nursery cut two roots off and the shrub is really hurting from the assault. This picture was taken this afternoon. The plant went into the ground right after coming home on Tuesday. Today is Friday, in case you're not paying strict attention. Anyway, it's our 1st plant together, Docken and I so we are anxious for a speedy recovery.

Walk on Tuesday-Thursday were pretty routine however we did to a supermarket walk Tuesday and picked up a 6-pack of Henry Weinhard's root beer. We've been enjoying root beer floats after dinner for the last couple of nights. Yum.

Found on the web. Our floats are much nicer looking.
Today it was a lovely Friday, late afternoon walk in the nearby botanical garden once again...

Today's walk report: 020814, the absent walker.

Rain or shine, in sickness or in health, meaningful or total nonsense, I've been very diligent in posting my "daily constitutional/meditative adventure/nature excursions," since mid-April 2013. However, for the last few days, walks have still taken place but the w.r. has seen an interruption which has taken a precedence I can not ignore... I'm in love. Perhaps for the 1st time in my life. So I'll be brief and get back to her. Thank you.

From today's walk, aka, walk #2 with love #1...

She's holding this flower for me. Thanks, sweets!

Today's walk report: 110813

Sometimes it's good to alternate shoes when walking or running...

Other times it's not. Today it was not. Oh well.

This could come in handy for someone? I'll tell you one thing, squirrels love to get a hold of t-paper for their nests.

Not much to write about. I mentioned this once before, for anyone tuned into the continuing saga of Green Lynx Spider #1 and her nest, I'll show you something.

Here she is just above and slightly behind her nest...

and here's her reaction when I blow slightly on her and the nest.

Quite the good mom protecting her future babies. Hopefully she's not one of those insects that eats a bunch of them after they hatch.

Leucadendron. It looked nice and I knew I wasn't getting a lot of pictures today.

Tagetes lemmonii, aka Copper Canyon daisy.

Sunset and a little sunsetting story. I was walking around the hill shortly before this. I went down to the teacher's parking lot doing a big circle, top of the hill and wound up getting a soda from a vending machine. A Mountain Dew if you must know. Anyway, as I was coming down an art teacher was driving up past me and waved. I thought, look at this, is she flirting with me? So I waved back and smiled. As I rounded the parking area pointing in the direction she was headed I suddenly realized she wasn't waving at all but was merely blocking the blinding setting sun from her view. My ego--shattered.

The glow? There was a fire somewhere. Last thing I'd ever watch on TV would be local news but I smelled smoke earlier and the air looking north was pretty darn brown.
