Today's walk report: 112518

The usual suspects...

See if you recognize any familiar faces or plumage.

No, not this black phoebe (Sayornis nigricans).

And not this maturing male Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna).

Not this female Anna's hummingbird either ...

But rather these two. Yes, they are becoming regulars here. A handsome male Calypte anna and a very good looking male Selasphorus sasin (Allen's hummingbird).

I've got a serious itch goin'.

  1. Do you recognize them on sight when you're in the garden, or more frequently when you review your photos on-line?

  2. Very nice. You should start naming the hummingbirds !

  3. They're highly territorial and protective of their turf. They follow certain patterns of behavior, routines are even predictable. But I also look for something distinguishable physically, rarely do I need to compare images with previous photos. They get to know you too! They become more comfortable with your presence. Birds are freaky smart.
