Today's walk report: 011418

Photos from this weekend, which will probably be historically known as "Shithole" weekend, at some date in the future.

Saturday.

Aussie native. No ID.
We named this ground squirrel, Gomer, after Gomer Pyle.
Not from when he was a Marine but rather when he ran the filling station.
Calypte anna, Anna's hummingbird.
It was getting dived upon by another male.

Showing some iridescence.
a little more.
Meanwhile the Senna bicapsularis bush next to me was rustling a bunch. It's a dense bush, it took me a moment to realize it was American bushtits (Psaltriparus minimus) going after insects. They travel in small flocks, typically 10+. 'Trippy little birds slightly smaller than a chickadee.

Psaltriparus minimus.
Psaltriparus minimus,
Sunday.

Right outside the front door. Eschscholzia californica.
One of the same two male Calypte anna hummingbirds from yesterday.

Calypte anna hummingbird.
It appeared to be the same two male Anna's hummingbirds from yesterday dive bombing and chasing each other presumably over territory. However, this female was hanging out about 30 feet (about 10 meters) away unbeknownst to either of them.

Female Calypte anna hummingbird.
Gulf fritillary butterfly ovipositing.
Same butterfly resting in a coral gum tree.
Phoebis sennae, the cloudless sulphur ovipositing in a Senna bicapsularis bush.
This is what the sky looked like.
Cirrusly.
